I was sick of my old carrier billing me up the wa-zu for minutes I barely used so I switched to tracfone. My phone now is nothing fancy but it was affordable. And I only pay for the minutes I use. I called that out right up front when I said, "This entire experiment was rigged in favor of the iPhone." To be fair, I should most definitely redo this experiment with a more up to date Android phone. Personally, I'm leaning towards trying out the Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S on AT&T). I've heard incredible things about that phone and played with it for a few minutes in the AT&T store one day - looks incredible! I definitely know I wasn’t using the latest and greatest Android technology. First off, Apple has never DOMINATED the PC market. If anything, they did and still do dominate that segment of the market that does ANYTHING creative. Secondly, Microsoft didn't do anything special. They didn't ALLOW anyone to build ANYTHING. IBM (actually a bunch of marketing people at IBM) decided they needed to build a desktop computer. Without actually designing anything (they contracted everything out to companies that could build each subassembly) they came out with the PC (what they really did is coin the term). IBM needed an operating system, so went to Digital Research Incorporated in Pacific Grove California where Gary Kildall had written the CP/M operating system for microprocessors. He didn't want to have anything to do with IBM, so sent them packing. They then approached Microsoft, who had no operating system but knew of someone in nearby Bellevue who had stolen a copy of CP/M's source and had already ported it (without realizing it) to the very microprocessor that IBM planned to use in its PC. Microsoft bought the stolen system fore $50,000 and offered to license it to IBM. And try not to look to closely at ANY of Microsoft's products - you might notice "similarities" to other company's products. Actually, your history is a bit off.
